Conclusion
The data and equations that we collected and created with this project can be used many ways. We have the ability to use the data from this experiment to create a sand gauge for sand truck drivers to know how long they can sand the icy NH roads before they must turn back and refill the tank, if another equation is created to relate dV/dt to the time until empty. This could help drivers maximize efficiency, by signaling to them when they need to return to refill. It will also help the driver and companies plan the most efficient routes for the trucks. In the process of developing this system, there were some hardships. Finding a suitable cone was a major difficulty. When we did make our paper cone, we originally wanted to make a wooden frame to support the weight. After errors in that development, however, we switched to using a wagon. We did use the wood planks to crate a frame to hold up the cone, so they did prove useful. One more overlooked conflict was the smallest part of the cone. Under the strain of the weight, the tip of the cone was crimped in the wagon. If we had taken this into account, we may have been able to reinforce this part. |
